Cadillac is a division of the American carmaker General Motors that designs and produces luxury cars. Its main markets are North America, and China. Cadillac models are split into 34 additional markets worldwide. Cadillac vehicles are at the top of the luxury area inside the United States.

Cadillac is among the original car brands in the world, second in the United States only to fellow GM marque Buick. The company was established by the remnants of the Henry Ford Company in 1902. It was called after Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, who established Detroit, Michigan. The Cadillac crest is based on his coat of arms.

By the time General Motors acquired the business in 1909, Cadillac had already proved itself as one of America's premier luxury carmakers. The full interchangeability of its accuracy parts had allowed it to lay the groundwork for the modern mass production of cars.

Cadillac was the first U.S. vehicle to win the Royal Automobile Club of the United Kingdom's Dewar Trophy by successfully showing the interchangeability of its part through a reliability test in 1908; this produced the firm's slogan "Standard of the World". It got the trophy again in 1912 for combining electric starting and lighting in a production car.
