Model overview
The Pontiac GTO is a sports car that was produced by American carmaker Pontiac from the 1964 till 1974 model years, and by GM's division Holden in Australia from the 2004 till 2006 model years. The initial generation of the GTO was the first muscle car built in the 1960s and the 1970s. The Pontiac GTO is considered to have begun the trend with all other domestic car makers offering a diversity of competing models.
The GTO model was resurrected from 2004 through 2006 model years as a confined import for Pontiac, a left-hand drive variant of the Holden Monaro, itself a coupé version of the Holden Commodore.
The Pontiac GTO comes as a 2+2 sport coupe in one trim level. There is only one powertrain available on the Pontiac GTO, a 6.0-liter V8 rated at 400 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. The standard transmission is a four-speed automatic transmission, but a six-speed, closed to manual transmission is also available as an option.
