The Hyundai Santa Fe is a sport utility vehicle (SUV) manufactured by the South Korean maker Hyundai since 2000. It is called after the city of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and was proposed for the 2001 model year as Hyundai's first SUV, delivered at the same time as the Ford Escape and Pontiac Aztek. The Santa Fe was a milestone in the company's restructuring program of the late 1990s because the SUV was a success with American buyers. The SUV was so successful that at times, Hyundai had trouble satisfying the demand. The Santa Fe quickly became Hyundai's best seller and contributed to Hyundai's success in the United States. Between 2007 and 2012, the Santa Fe fell within the somewhat smaller compact crossover Tucson and the larger luxury crossover SUV Veracruz.

Known problems

• If you are seeing that the air conditioning is not blowing out ice-cold air on the coldest settings, then it most likely needs re-gassed. If this is not the issue, then it will indicate that the compressor is faulty.
• The actuators are likely to fail in this car. If you are having problems with one of the doors not locking when you use the fob to lock them, then the actuator on the door will be damaged.
• The Santa Fe can have issues with starting in cold circumstances, or when the engine is cold. This issue can be caused by one of two sensors failing: the temperature sensor or the coolant sensor.
• There are known issues with the power steering pump failing on this car. When you turn the steering to full lock and hear a loud, high pitched noise and the steering wheel vibrates, this is a clear indication of a broken power steering pump.
