The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is a light commercial van produced by Daimler AG of Stuttgart, Germany as a chassis cab, minibus, van, and pickup truck. In the past, the Sprinter has been marketed under the Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner, Dodge, and Volkswagen nameplates. In the U.S. it is made from complete knockdown kits by Freightliner. They are now sold by Mercedes-Benz. Re-badged Sprinters were also marketed by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles as the Volkswagen Crafter and the Volkswagen LT.
The prime generation North American Sprinter debuted in 2001 in the U.S. and was first branded as a Freightliner. Units marketed in North America were badged as Mercedes-Benz till 2003 when they got Dodge branding. Units in North America (without Mexico), could be bought as a Dodge or Freightliner from 2003.
