Model overview
The BMW M5 is a five-passenger high-performance version of the BMW 5 Series sold under the BMW M sub-brand. It is thought an iconic automobile in the sports sedan niche. The bulk of M5s have been produced in the sedan body style, but in some areas, the M5 was also available as a wagon from 1992 through 1995 and from 2006 through 2010.
The initial M5 model was hand-built in 1985 with a modified engine from the M1 that made it the fastest making sedan at the moment. M5 models have been designed for each generation of the 5 Series as 1985.
The standard M5 comes powered by a turbocharged V8 engine rated at 600 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. The M5 Competition upgrade, adds a 17 extra horsepower. Both variants come paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
