Model overview

The Volvo XC40 is a compact five-door crossover SUV produced by Volvo Cars. It was revealed in September 2017 and construction began in November 2017.

The XC40 was elected Car of the Year by the publication What Car? in January 2018, and it was awarded the European Car of the Year Award at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The XC40 was also given Carsales Car of the Year in 2018 and Irish Car of the Year in 2019. 

The 2020 Volvo XC40 is available in three trim levels: Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription. The Momentum comes well equipped with luxury and safety traits. Updating to the R-Design costs more but adds exterior styling improvements and luxury traits. The Inscription trades the R-Design's sporty updates for even more facilities. Each trim comes with various features packages and stand-alone choices.

The XC40 is marketed with two powertrains, both using a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The front-wheel-drive T4 generates 187 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque while the all-wheel-drive T5 raises the output to 248 hp and 258 lb-ft.
