The Volvo S40 is a range of compact and subcompact executive vehicles sold and offered by the Swedish carmaker Volvo Cars from 1995 through 2012.

The first generation (1995–2004) debuted in 1995 with the S40 (S from saloon) and V40 (V from versatility) automobiles. The second-generation (2004–2012) was introduced in 2004, and the estate variant's name evolved to V50. The series was followed by the Volvo V40 hatchback in 2012.

The V40 Wagon and the S40 Sedan are powered by a turbocharged 1.9-liter engine rated at 160-horsepower 1.9-liter four-cylinder engine and paired to a five-speed automatic transmission, as the only transmission available.
