Model overview

The Toyota Platz is a subcompact automobile that was produced in Japan by Toyota from 1999 till 2005 when it was followed by the Belta. The Platz was also marketed in export markets as either the Toyota Echo and Toyota Yaris. The "Yaris" and "Echo" titles were also given to the export variant of the similar Japanese market Vitz hatchback, from which the Platz descends.

The name "Platz" comes from the German word for "space". Only inline-four engines were applied to the Platz, which was marketed in Japan as a four-door sedan solely. A coupé variant was also possible in North America where the vehicle was badged "Echo".

The Toyota ECHO is available in the following submodels: ECHO Sedan, ECHO Coupe. All Toyota ECHO models are available with a 1.5 L-liter gas engine, rated at 108 hp, depending on engine type and front-wheel drive. Available transmissions include a 4-speed automatic, 5-speed manual.
