Pontiac Torrent specs

Model overview

The Pontiac Torrent is a mid-size five-seat passenger SUV built by General Motors from 2006 through 2009 model years. A follower for the Aztek, it was a restyled variant of the prime generation Chevrolet Equinox.

The Torrent was based on the same platform as the Equinox. However, the Torrent has a distinct front and rear end to differentiate from the Equinox. The suspension was firmer and sportier, and the electronic power steering was changed to provide a more natural feel.

The Pontiac Torrent is available in two trim levels, base and GXP, in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The base Torrent is powered by a 3.4-liter V6 rated at 185 hp and 210 pound-feet of torque. It's paired to a five-speed automatic transmission. The GXP highlights a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces an impressive 264 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. It comes mated with a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control. Properly equipped, the Torrent can tow up to 3,500 pounds.
