Model overview

The Jeep Renegade (BU/520) is a subcompact crossover SUV (mini SUV in Europe) manufactured by Jeep. The off-road car was first revealed to the public in March 2014 at the Geneva Motor Show and making it started in late August of that year. It was believed that the Renegade would substitute the Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot in the Jeep lineup. The Patriot was abandoned after the model year 2017, but the second generation Compass was begun in early 2017.

The Jeep Renegade comes in four primary trim levels, Sport, Trailhawk, Upland, and Altitude. The Sport and Latitude models are powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine (180 horsepower, 175 lb-ft of torque). Optional on those trims and standard on the Limited and Trailhawk is a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine producing 177 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque and is paired to a nine-speed automatic.

The all-wheel-drive models can tow up to 2000 pounds, but Jeep doesn't recommend towing with front-drive versions.

Known problems

Most of the Jeep Renegade’s seems to yield transmission problems. The Cherokee and Renegade’s 9-speed transmission suffers from hard shifts, lurching problems, and a wiring harness defect that can produce sudden shutdowns or unexpected shifting into neutral.
