Model overview

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a series of five-passenger mid-size SUVs manufactured by Jeep. While some other SUVs were built with body-on-frame architecture, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always adopted a unibody chassis.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee comes in seven trim levels: Laredo, Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, SRT, and Trackhawk. Most Grand Cherokees are available with either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

The Laredo model is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine producing 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Other features include an eight-speed automatic transmission, rear parking sensors, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, a 7-inch touchscreen, and a six-speaker sound system. The upper trims can be equipped with the standard V6 or the optional 5.7-liter V8 engine delivering 360 hp and 390 lb-ft.

The Grand Cherokee towing capacity is 6200 pounds for V-6 models and 7200 pounds with the V-8.

Some of the common problems or complaints owners have about the Jeep Grand Cherokee are:

• The 2011 Grand Cherokee owners reported a TIPM failure, making the engine not to start or to be hard to start.
• Aesthetic issues related to the leather dashboard bubbles or wrinkles up seen on the 2011 model.
• Electronic shifting problems related to the transmission, which affected the 2014 and 2015 model years. Owners experienced jerking, hesitating, and roughness when shifting, or wouldn’t shift gears.
