Model overview

The Hyundai Equus is a full-size luxury sedan that was built by the South Korean carmaker Hyundai from 1999 through 2016. The word "equus" comes from the Latin word for "horse". In 2009, Hyundai introduced the second generation using a rear-wheel-drive platform to compete with the BMW 7 Series, Audi A8, Mercedes S-Class, and Lexus LS. 

In 2015, Hyundai formally declared the Genesis nameplate would be spun off into Genesis Motor, the latest luxury automobile division for Hyundai. The 2016 follower to the Hyundai Equus has been rebranded as Genesis G90. The Equus presently serves as the approved state vehicle of the Republic of Korea.

The Hyundai Equus is available in two trims levels: base Signature and Ultimate. It is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 that generates 429 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, sends power to the rear-wheel-drive, accelerating from a 0-60-mph in of 5.6 seconds.
