Model overview

The Ford Windstar (following Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey) is a minivan that was manufactured and marketed by Ford. The follower of the Ford Aerostar, the Windstar used the front-wheel-drive setup of the Chrysler minivans. From 1995 through 2007 model years, three generations of the model series were marketed, with the last generation know as the Ford Freestar.

Independent to the Nissan-produced Mercury Villager, the Windstar was sold without a Lincoln-Mercury equivalent. As part of the 2004 debut of the Ford Freestar, Mercury launched its initial Ford-built minivan trying to revive the Mercury Monterey nameplate.

Following a drop in sales across the minivan class in the mid-2000s, the Freestar and Monterey were abandoned after the 2007 model year with no direct substituent.

Available with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (AWD), the Freestyle was equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 engine producing 203 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque, paired to a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
