Model overview

The Dodge Caravan (or the Dodge Grand Caravan in late models) is a range of minivans manufactured by Chrysler since the 1984 model year. Sold as the Dodge variant of the Chrysler minivans, the Caravan is presently in its fifth generation. Launched alongside the Plymouth Voyager, the Caravan was also marketed by Chrysler as the Chrysler Town & Country until 2017 when it was replaced by the Chrysler Pacifica.

The Grand Caravan is mainly sold in North America, while in Europe is sold as the Chrysler Voyager. From 2009 to 2014, Volkswagen sold the Volkswagen Routan, a rebadged variant of the Dodge Grand Caravan.

Since introduction in 1983, the Dodge Caravan has been assembled in Canada with an additional source of production before 2010 in Fenton, Missouri. Chrysler sold over 14.6 million minivans (including rebadged and export variants ) worldwide.

The Grand Caravan has only one powertrain option available, a naturally aspirated 283-hp V-6 paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. 

Dodge Grand Caravan known problems

• The fifth generation of Grand Caravan is affected by the Fiat-Chrysler mistake by using aluminum valve stems in their tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) causing corrosion from salt and other contaminates.
• Models from 2011-2012 are affected by the TIPM Related Power Problem causing electrical functions to not work properly.
• Owners of the Gand Caravan from the fourth generation (2001-2007) reported a cracked dashboard caused by defective plastic.
• Oil sludge and sludge-related engine failure of Chrysler's 2.7L engine is affecting the models from third-generation 1996–2000.
• Sometimes owners of the third generation of Grand Caravan 1996-2000 are stuck in park mode caused by a weak design made with low-cost plastic parts.
