Dodge Dakota specs

Model overview

The Dodge Dakota, also known as the Ram Dakota for the last two years of making, is a mid-size pickup truck from Chrysler's Ram (previously Dodge Truck) department. From its debut through 2009, it was sold by Dodge. The original Dakota was launched in 1986 for the 1987 model year.

The Dakota has been slotted above the Chevrolet S-10 and Ford Ranger but under the Dodge's own Ram. The Dakota was the first mid-size pickup truck with an optional V8 powertrain and has been used by police and fire agencies, as off-road SUVs and patrol trucks.

Four trim levels are offered: base ST, Big Horn, TRX4 and Laramie. A 3.7-liter V6 powertrain is standard on every trim, delivering 210 horsepower and 235 pound-feet of torque. It comes paired to a four-speed automatic as the only transmission available with this powertrain. Rear-wheel drive is by default on all Dakotas, while four-wheel drive is optional.
