Model overview

The Chrysler 200 is a mid-sized vehicle that was produced and sold by Chrysler from 2011 to 2017 model years across two generations in sedan and convertible body styles.

The 200 originated from the 200C name, a prototype hybrid model presented in Detroit at the 2009 North American International Auto Show and based on the Chrysler 300. The 200C concept was designed to accept either conventional gasoline, hybrid or full-electric engines.

The Chrysler 200 is equipped with a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter Tigershark engine generating 184 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. The more powerful version is equipped with a Pentastar engine delivering 295 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque.

Chrysler 200 known problems

• The TIPM module is known to have issues in many Chrysler 200 causing all kinds of electrical problems: from the horn going off randomly, to the car that won’t start or wipers won’t turn off.
• The 2015 Chrysler 200 has two recalls related to the electrical system. One with a connector at the power distribution center not doing proper contract causing the car to stall. The second recall was related to a wiring harness in the door, that may short out, producing a fire.
• The cam followers on the Pentastar V6 engine with four valves per cylinder tend to fail producing the engine to make a ticking sound. Left unattended, it may damage the camshaft, and in consequence extensive engine damage.
• Another issue is related to the neutral safety system. When it fails injury and death can occur caused by leaving the transaxle in neutral.
