Model overview

The Chevrolet Avalanche is a four-door pickup truck based on General Motor's long-wheelbase body shared with the Chevrolet Suburban and Cadillac Escalade EXT. Leaving a long-standing culture, the Avalanche was not offered as a GMC, but just as a Chevrolet. Making of the Avalanche began in 2001 and ended in 2013. It spanned across two generations in its lifespan.

At its introduction, the prime generation model was available with two- or four-wheel drive and in 1500 (half-ton) or 2500 (3/4-ton) forms. The 1500 model was powered by a 5.3-liter V8 engine producing for 285 hp, while the 2500 model was powered by a 340-hp 8.1-liter V8 engine. Both engines came paired with a four-speed automatic transmission.
